KCMN May Meeting-Are You Prepared? What Excel Industries Learned from an Active Shooter Situation.

Tuesday, May 10, 2022 (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM) (CDT)

Description

We do our best to prepare for the unexpected and often wonder if there is more we could do. KCMN's May meeting will help you examine your organization's preparedness by sharing a real manufacturing experience in something we hope you will never encounter, an active shooter.

This presentation will begin with a brief overview of the shooting incident on February 25, 2016 at Excel Industries in Hesston, KS. Lamar Roth, Director of Human Resources at Excel Industries will review the experiences of the HR department, the role the department had during the immediate hours, days and weeks after the event, the role of HR now, 6 years after the event. He will explore lessons learned and answer questions at the end of the presentation.

7:00 a.m.-7:30 a.m. FULL Breakfast
7:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m. Program

About the Speaker:  Lamar Roth, SHRM-CP, Director of Human Resources, Excel Industries, Inc.

Lamar Roth, SHRM-CP Director of Human Resources Excel Industries, Inc.

Mr. Roth became the Director of Human Resources at Excel Industries in May of 2014. He is responsible for the daily operations of the human resource team, recruitment, benefits, and other functions. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Goshen College in Religion and Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Western Kentucky University. Mr. Roth is recognized as a Certified Professional in Human Resources (SHRM-CP) through the Society of Human Resources Management.

Prior to his current position at Excel Industries, Mr. Roth served for eleven years as the Vice President of Student Life at Hesston College and for fifteen years as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist. While the path to his present role in human resources may be somewhat unconventional, Mr. Roth would suggest that many of these roles and responsibilities have been building blocks and have served him well in his current position.

Mr. Roth is currently the Director of Human Resources at Stanley Black and Decker Outdoor, formally Excel Industries in Hesston Kansas. Lamar was in this role when 4 employees were killed and 12 were injured in a mass shooting in Excel’s production plant. He continues in that role today.
